I think this attitude is either disengenuous or inconsistent.  What is it that
makes 5wpm acceptable and 13 not?  If it's just the treaty, then presumably
any support for 5wpm will disappear if the treaty is changed, so it's not
really support for 5wpm, but support for obeying a treaty.  All the arguments
I read here against current CW testing apply to 5 as well as 13/20.  If there
is an argument that applies *only* to 13, I still haven't heard it (unless it's
the "plateau" argument, which isn't an argument at all, only an observation).
You say you would "accept" the continuation of 5wpm.  My question is, is this
acceptance an endorsement, or just a biding of time until that too can be
removed?

Here is a slightly more complete listing based upon my archives dating back
to the middle of January 1994.  Remind me to send this to some guy from
Texas who politely (sort of) asked me to shut up.  I didn't even make the
top 20, ;-)

This list contains everyone that has posted 5 or more articles to this
newsgroup since January 10, 1994.  I tried to make the script handle all the
various name changes people made over that period.  Some have as many
as 12 different variants they posted under, sigh.  I know I didn't get them
all as I just noticed Bill Sohl and William Sohl, and I know some of our
Brown friends posted from root accounts.

Anyway, here are the top 134 out of a total of 577.  I didn't total the
number of articles this list represents (left that as an exercise for
the reader), but my archive contained 5149 articles.

Didn't take that long.  About 10 minutes with grep, sort and vi.

I guess that next time I will make it generic. (ie. Person A - 31, Person
B - 28)  I didn't intend to point out individuals, that is why I
did the who list down to people with individual posts.  I guess that some
ego bruise easily.  73 and keep up the relevent discussions.>

Long range aviation communications gave up CW decades ago - that
change didn't have any effect on the amateur community.

If you are only seeking efficient communications then you
must consider giving up all voice comms in favor of digital.
Therefore, all test questions dealing with SSB and FM should
be deleted, for it's unfair to test perspective hams on these
ancient modes. We need to stop perserving history!
